Who We Are:
Lamar United Methodist Church’s rich history began on March 13, 1881. Much has changed over the years, but one thing has stayed the same. We believe church isn’t so much a place you go to, but a family you belong to. As the family of God, our church members “love one another,” “carry each other’s burdens,” “encourage one another,” and “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (John 13:34, Gal. 6:2, 1 Thess. 5:11, Heb. 10:24). If you have been longing for a family like that, then you have found your people!

What to Expect
How do I find my way around Lamar UMC?
We have been praying for you and will be looking for you! Our greeters are ready to help you and your family find your way to the children’s areas, Sunday School classes, restrooms and all those other important places. Bulletins that contain the order of service and other information you need to know are available as you enter the sanctuary from either entrance.
What about my children?
As in any family, your children are a top priority. Children are always welcome in worship and are encouraged to attend. You may also entrust your little ones to our excellent caregivers in the nursery, so you can experience a time of worship with fewer distractions. It’s your choice.
What do I wear?
Dress comfortably. Some who attend like to wear ‘Sunday Best,’ but most wear comfortable clothes. Don’t worry about what to wear – just come to worship God and get to know us.
What do I bring?
You can bring your Bible if you have one (either traditional or digital). If you don’t have your own, Bibles are provided in the Sunday School classrooms and Sanctuary pews for your convenience.
What about the Sunday church service?
Sunday Worship starts at 10:30 am. You can expect to sing more traditional type hymns accompanied by piano and choir. Occasionally, our choir will perform Christian contemporary musical selections. The message is based on God’s word, the Bible, always! The entire service usually lasts just a little over an hour.
